The latest Zogby poll shows Bob Barr polling 6% nationally. Another poll has Barr at 8% in his home state of Georgia. The Obama campaign believes that Barr will be a serious factor in Georgia, Alaska, North Carolina, and Colorado. Barr has received great media attention for a non-major party candidate, most recently having made appearances last Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” and CNN News Room. He’s hired a very strong campaign staff, headed by Russ Verney, who ran Ross Perot’s campaign.
Whether you like Barr or not, this is great news for the country.
The two party system has monopolized our politics for too long. Together, they have delivered us $4 a gallon gas; made us almost totally dependent on foreign oil; created the worst housing market in 70 years; destroyed the dollar; reignited inflation; got us into endless wars in the middle east, which distracted us from finding and punishing the terrorists responsible for 9/11; and created the greatest threats to our civil liberties since the civil war.
It shouldn’t be surprising that the mood of the voters is even more sour today (with 85% saying the country is headed in the wrong direction) than it was in 1992 when Ross Perot won 19% of the vote. The difference between 1992 and today is that Perot was one man, while Bob Barr leads a political party which can be built into a long-term force to challenge the entrenched interests and change the country.
It’s time for Americans to stand up and say NO MORE. The way to do this is to break the Demopublican political monopoly by voting for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party.
